Sanidad #PorElClima is the online platform that brings together a community of healthcare sector stakeholders committed to addressing the climate emergency. Its main objective is to accelerate climate action within the healthcare sector by helping hospitals and healthcare centres in Spain, as well as other companies and organisations, measure and reduce their carbon footprint in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

To achieve this, the initiative works collaboratively with both public and private entities, including the Department of Health, regional health services, hospitals, healthcare organisations and associations, professional bodies, and pharmaceutical companies.

The platform provides tools, resources, and collaborative spaces designed to facilitate climate action in the healthcare field. Among these is ScopeCO2, a free carbon footprint calculator specifically developed for healthcare centres. In 2023, the Department of Health recognised this tool as a benchmark for public and private hospitals to officially calculate and report their emissions.

In addition, being part of Sanidad #PorElClima provides access to up-to-date information on climate and health, best practices, success stories, and innovative initiatives that contribute to advancing towards a more sustainable and resilient healthcare system.
